There are few ways to make your care more “your own” than getting a custom paint job. Once it is finished, however, you must work to keep it looking as amazing as when you first picked it up.
How can you do that? The tips below will help:
Keep It Clean
Avoid off-roading, mud-bogging, and leaving a layer of dust, dirt, or grime on your vehicle for long. This is because grime and dirt can bond to your new paint job and leave that shiny outer coat looking cloudy.
Whenever your vehicle is exposed to an excessive amount of dirt or winter weather, you should have it cleaned as soon as you can. Additionally, depending on where you live, you should wash your vehicle every few weeks.
Avoid Car Washes
The brushes, jets, and chemicals used at a commercial car wash are tough on vehicle paint jobs. The best way to preserve the paint job is to hand wash it. When you wash it, follow these rules:
No Sponges: Sponges collect dirt in their pores, which can leave a dirty film behind and in the worst scenario, even scratch your paint job.
No Household Soaps: Household soaps use chemicals that can erode your paint job; soaps specifically formulated for vehicle washing will not have those chemicals.
Cover the Vehicle
An unprotected vehicle is exposed to ice, snow, rain, dirt, excessive and wildly fluctuating temperatures, animals walking, and birds relieving themselves on it. All that can cause a new paint job to dull. If you do not have a garage or carport to put the vehicle in, you should invest in a vehicle cover and cover it as much as possible.
Carry a Spot Treatment Kit
Carry with you a microfiber cloth and cleaning solution so that you can clean up spills, dirt, dust, etc.
Repair It Quickly
Scratches and dings happen. Making sure you get them repaired as soon as possible gives you the best chance of restoring and preserving your paint job.
